Offering Hunger for a Special Intention

Hunger during a fast is not wasted. It can become prayer.

When you feel physical hunger, you have a choice. You can focus on discomfort, or you can offer it to God for someone or something specific.

In Colossians 1:24, Saint Paul speaks of uniting his sufferings with Christ for the sake of the Church. Small sacrifices, when offered in love, take part in this mystery.

Offering hunger means giving your discomfort a purpose.

You might fast for:

1. A Person
Pray for a family member, a friend, or someone who is struggling.

2. Conversion
Offer your sacrifice for someone who has drifted from the faith.

3. Healing
Intercede for those who are sick in body or mind.

4. Guidance
Ask God to direct a decision in your life.

Each time hunger rises, repeat your intention. A short prayer is enough. “Lord, I offer this for…” keeps your focus steady.

The value is not in the size of the sacrifice, but in the love behind it.

The Church teaches that sacrifices united with Christ have spiritual fruit.

Clear intention strengthens perseverance during fasting.

  • Choose one clear intention before your fast begins.
  • Write the name of the person you are praying for.
  • Turn each moment of hunger into a brief intercessory prayer.
Tomorrow, we will reflect on fasting during Lent and its deeper meaning.
