The Practice of Silence and Stillness

Noise fills most days. Without quiet, reflection becomes shallow.

Silence allows thoughts to settle. Stillness slows reaction and restores balance.

In Psalm 46:10, we read, โ€œBe still, and know that I am God.โ€ Stillness creates awareness of Godโ€™s presence.

Silence is not empty space. It is attentive space.

To practice silence and stillness:

1. Choose a Fixed Time
Set aside five to ten minutes daily.

2. Remove Distractions
Turn off devices and limit noise.

3. Sit Upright and Breathe Slowly
Let the body become calm.

4. Focus on a Short Prayer
Repeat a simple phrase when thoughts wander.

5. End with Gratitude
Thank God for the quiet moment.

Stillness reveals patterns of thought. It strengthens self-control and clarity.

Regular silence builds mental stability. Stability supports wise decisions.

Short daily silence improves concentration.

Consistent practice reduces impulsive reactions.

  • Schedule five minutes of quiet.
  • Keep your phone outside the room.
  • Close with a brief prayer of trust.
Tomorrow, we will reflect on letting go of anxiety through trust in God.
